Cynthia L. Sowell was born December 2, 1952, in Jasper, Florida to the late Matelyn Sowell and Verna Mae Evans. At an early age, Cynthia made her confession of faith and joined Greater Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She received her early education at JRE Lee School in Jasper, Florida.

Cynthia was loving and kind in all her ways and was adored by those who knew her. She was a wonderful mother, sister, and grandmother. We will always cherish the times we shared and the thoughtful ways she showed her love.

On December 29, 2022, God peacefully called her home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: A1C Tedric "Teddy" Sowell; three brothers: Dorsey Sowell, Herbert Sowell, and Willie Frank Taylor; and one sister: Connie Dean Simon.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter: D'Shonna Sowell of Hyattsville, MD; one sister: Mary E. Atkins of Philadelphia, PA; seven brothers: Alonzo, Brent and Glenn Sowell, all of Jasper, Florida, Bishop Carl (Lee Omie) Sowell of Statenville, GA, Donnie Sowell of Laurel, MD, Leonard Phillips of Gainesville, FL, and Bruce  (Sonja) Phillips  of Wilmington, DE; two grandchildren: Derrius Sowell and De'Dric Forbes; one aunt: Janie Mae Bristol of Jasper, FL; sister-in-law: Marilynn Sowell of St. Petersburg, FL; special friends: Corrine Humphrey, Thomas Durand, and Woodrow Lumpkin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
