THE LIFE & LEGACY OF JIMMY

Brother Jimmy Holden of Lake City, Florida; age 79, traveled peacefully to join His Heavenly Father on Saturday, March, 2026.

Jimmy was born in Jasper, Florida on August 25,1946 to the late Ms. Essie Mae Holden. He obtained his education and graduated from J.R.E. Lee High School in the year 1964. Jimmy received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies from Florida Memorial University in Miami, Florida. There he pledged "Phi Beta Sigma" and was dedicated to living the motto, "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity".

After graduating, Jimmy returned home and was employed at Greenwood School in Jasper, Fl located in the district of Hamilton County. Jimmy later relocated to Lake City, Fl; and was employed by the Columbia County School System in the Exceptional Education Department on August 8, 1978, at Lake City Middle School and was transferred to Richardson (9th grade) later becoming Richardson Middle School until his retirement on September 30, 2011. During his tenure he was a member of the Special Olympics and National Achievers both working with students to accomplish their goals.

Jimmy was dedicated to helping, giving and donating to young students to reach their potential in the Education system. Jimmy retired with thirty-five years in the educational department and became an access to the department.

As a child, Jimmy accepted Christ as his personal Savior and served faithfully as a member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church, alongside his mother, under the leadership of Pastor Fisher. Upon Jimmy relocating to Lake City, Florida, he served faithfully at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church.

Jimmy was married to Ms. Anna George Peterson and to this union one daughter was born.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Anna George Holden; daughter, Essielandra Holden; mother, Essie Mae Holden and three brothers, Charles Beal, Willie James Holden and Sergeant Major Wallace "Alton" Holden.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his granddaughter, Ja'Myia Williams; five sisters, Addie Florence Cherry (Live Oak, Fl.), Velora Loper, Mary Dukes, Joyce Holden and Phyllis Jefferson (all of Jasper, Fl.), one brother, Alonza Holden (Maxine) Jacksonville, Fl., one special niece Donna Holden-Oliver (Tyrone) Jasper, Fl. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and caring friends.

Devoted friends: Dr. Brenda Thomas, Judy Pierce, Curtis Thomas, Elder Stiner Jones, Jabo Jones, Beatrice Harris and Deloria Only
