Mattie Louise
Allen
Feb 14, 1944 — Oct 26, 2019
Jasper
Mattie Louise Allen 1944-2019
On February 14, 1944, Mattie was the thirteenth bundle of joy born in Jasper, Florida to the late William and Smitha Sowell- Allen. As a young child, she was raised in the big house on the farm before moving to "Pork Chop" hill where some of her fondest memories were made.
Mattie was never able to walk but that never deterred her from having a sunny smile on her face. At an early age, Mattie received Christ in her life, was baptized and began her servant walk with The Lord. Mattie served her church faithfully until her health declined. Mattie enjoyed rendering Songs of Zion each Sunday with her sister Edith.
During her senior years, Mattie spent her days brightening the halls of Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, Florida. Mattie was a dutiful participant with the activities department making sure she did not miss an event. Her radiant smile, loving tone, and humble spirit were often noted among staff at the center. Along with her smile, Mattie was known for singing songs of praise and worship for the Lord. Even after her health began to decline she still had a "hymn in her heart." Affectionately known as "Auntie Mattie" to most, she never complained about anything and often would reply "I'm alright" when asked, "How are you doing?"
In the essence of time and its precious state of waiting for no man, it is important to do all we can while we can; before the return of The Lord. This being important so that we too can hear The Lord's reply of "WELL DONE! My good and faithful servant!" On October 26, 2019, God whispered in the ear of Mattie this reply followed by "it is time for you to take your sweet rest."
In earning her wings, Mattie will take her rest with those who have preceded her in death. William Allen (father), Smitha Sowell-Allen (Mother) 12 siblings (James W, Clyde, Lucious, Edith, Catherine, Lucille, Leonard, Leon, Lois, Mary, Lee Edna) The life and legacy of Mattie Louise Allen will forever live on in those who will hold her precious memories. Such memories are held by her sister Altamease Gordon of DeLand, Florida, and sister-in-law Sarah Allen of Lake City, Florida. Her devoted nieces and caregivers Gloria J. Paremore, Carolyn Allen, and Marva Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
